Te Puia makes Expedia's NZ Must Do List

This is what Expedia had to say about Te Puia: Located just five minutes from central Rotorua, in the famous Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, Te Puia is the perfect spot to visit on your next family holiday. Our haven for big and little kids alike was recently featured in Expedia’s article, ‘Your Next Family Holiday Adventure in New Zealand’. Come and experience for yourself the extent of our unique hospitality and rich Māori cultural heritage!

Ancestral History

Our people have been operating guides around the natural wonders of the area for the last 140 years and have occupied the land for almost 700! Discover the Māori culture and history on one of our day or night time tours of the geothermal pools and geysers. Children and adults enjoy learning about the connection we share with the land.

After your tour take some time to continue your education at the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute where you will be immersed in the ancient practices of art and crafts. Watch young artisans learning woodcarving from their skilled teachers and marvel at the natural beauty of stone carvings and woven materials.

Meet New Zealand’s Native Birds

The kiwi bird is not only our national emblem, but is also absolutely adorable commonly known as an “honorary mammal”. The smallest living flightless birds, is almost impossible to spot in the wild due to its nocturnal habits. Don’t miss you chance to share this experience with your kids in our special enclosure. Watch as our kiwis forage for insects!

Pohutu Geyser

What really blows families away however, is the southern hemisphere’s biggest geyser – Pohutu Geyser, not to mention the 500 other natural geothermal wonders. Make sure to bring your camera to capture the wonder on your kid’s faces as the geyser explodes with the force of the Earth’s geothermic intensity.

Feeling hungry? Maybe it’s time to head to Ngararatuatara – our natural cooking pool. If you haven’t discovered geothermal cuisine yet then you’re in for a treat. Watch skilled hands whip up a feast of seafood, eggs, sweetcorn and watercress.

As Expedia says, ‘when you’re packing up the whole gang, however, an extra level of organisation is required.’ But when you visit Te Puia you have everything you need and more to create a fun family experience that will be lovingly remembered for years to come!
